From the very beginning, we have been determined to provide a clear career progression for everyone that works at Nero.  The biggest opportunities are in our coffee houses, and every year we develop and promote hundreds of people.
Promoting from within is the Nero way. We are proud to say that over 90% of our fabulous Store Managers started out as Baristas. And many of our Store Managers have continued their personal development to Area Manager.

Career Progression

From Barista to Manager and beyond, you'll receive clear and practical training – such as perfecting coffee making skills, people management and delivering a top rate customer experience in a supportive and structured way. Our baristas are the heartbeat of Green Caffè Nero. They don’t only tailor our customers’ coffee, they make a difference to their day, too. You don’t need any experience to become a barista (we provide all the training you need), but you do need a great attitude and lots of energy.

Shift Leader

The next step on the ladder. Shift leaders work closely with the store manager to achieve the store’s success. Motivating the team, ensuring great customer service, and helping maintain our brand standards are the key focus.  Shift leader is the first step to a managerial role.

Assistant Manager

Assistant managers have learned what it takes to run a successful store. Our training helps them discover how they can support and coach others. Now it’s time to put those skills into practice and help the store manager get the best from their team.

Store Manager

The person with full responsibility for their store, our store managers set the example for others to follow. The role involves developing team members’ skills, ensuring the store lives up to our brand’s reputation and, of course, delivers financial success. Our Store Managers are the custodians of the Green Caffè Nero way.

Training and Development

It takes about three years from starting to acquire the skills of the Barista to effectively running your own business. We stand by you from day one. Closer at first to show you the way. Then, as you progress from Barista to Shift Leader, we step aside a little to let you develop and grow.

As you move to Assistant Manager, we motivate and coach in equal measures. Our aim is to bring out the resourceful, enterprising business leader in you.

As Store Manager, you’re a custodian of the Caffè Nero way and running your own coffee house.

Finally, you could develop to become an Area Manager, taking the leap from single-site to multi-site management. You’ll be an inspiration to your team while consistently delivering the Caffè Nero brand to our customers.
